Lab Compendium

Effective Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, Munson Healthcare's Laboratories compendium will be updated. Please reference this compendium for lab orders instead of Mayo’s Lab Test Catalog.

Here's what you need to know for this change...

Why and what is changing to the Munson Healthcare’s laboratories compendium?
As part of Munson Healthcare's One Patient Record implementation, Munson Healthcare’s Laboratories will be updating the laboratory compendium. The updated laboratory compendium will contain new test codes/names for order and result. Also, the new compendium offers a more complete referral test menu improving connectivity for electronic order interface clients.

How can I update my EHR?
Please work with your EHR vendor to update your system prior to go-live. ECW Offices: Please see note below.

What impact will it have on previous orders or non-updated orders?
For electronic order interface clients, orders placed prior to Jan. 25 or orders placed after Jan. 25 that are not reflective of the new compendium will be returned as unsolicited results to your EHR.

How can providers/offices assist with Laboratory continuum of care for patients during this transition?
We recommend giving patients a copy of their laboratory requisition(s) during this transition. In addition, we encourage scheduled appointments to reduce wait times and allow time to review orders prior to service. Appointments can be scheduled online at Outpatient Laboratory Self-Scheduling or by calling 231-392-7891.

What if my office doesn't have an EMR or uses paper-based ordering?
Laboratory order requisitions are available online at munsonhealthcare.org/physicianforms. Please use these when ordering laboratory testing. Forms can either be printed as needed or fax request to 231-935-7389 to have a quantity delivered to your office.

Who can I contact for questions/concerns?
Please contact either Dr Jim Whelan at jwhelan@mhc.net, Medical Director, Munson Clinically Integrated Network and Northern Michigan Care Partners, or Munson’s Physician Liaisons at physicianliaison@mhc.net

ECW Offices:
We have engaged eClinicalWorks to update the lab compendium with the new codes. Please note that the actual test names will remain unchanged.

Key Points:

  • Timing: The updates and validation will be performed over the weekend of Jan. 25, 2025.
  •  Impact on You:
    • Any favorites lists, templates, or order sets will need to be updated with orders from the new lab compendium.
    • Future orders with the old test codes, where the order is performed after Jan. 25, 2025, will fall to your lab reconciliation list. These can then be matched to the old order.
