Munson Medical Center offers area a safe solution for medical waste
Area residents with diabetes and other conditions that require home use of needles or other sharps materials often struggle with how to safely dispose of the materials after use.
Munson Medical Center will offer area residents a free means to dispose of their medical sharps waste at a Community Sharps Disposal Day from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the hospital’s main entrance.
Area residents can drop off their sharps – needles, syringes, and lancets – in these approved containers:
- Medical sharps container
- Heavy-duty plastic laundry detergent jug with tight-fitting lid
Pills and liquids will not be accepted.
Residents are advised to never put sharps needles into their recycling or normal household waste.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality website also lists sharps disposal programs at michigan.gov/documents/deq/whm-stsw-sharps-collection-list_196524_7.pdf
