The West Shore Medical Center Auxiliary is hosting a garage sale on May 14 and 15 to benefit the volunteer group’s pledge to purchase advanced lifesaving devices for West Shore’s ambulance fleet. The sale will be held behind the hospital at 1465 E. Parkdale Ave. in Manistee from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
The public is invited to donate gently used items for the sale from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13 or from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 14 at the sale site. All items should be clean and in good working order, and clothing should be folded neatly or on hangers. Pre-pricing of items is greatly encouraged. Unsold items will be donated local charities.
The units to be purchased by the Auxiliary serve multiple lifesaving purposes on the ambulance. They provide external cardiac defibrillation for patients with an abnormal heart rhythm, often saving lives while on the road. Additionally, they monitor the patient’s vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, and alert the emergency medical personnel of changes so they can intervene quickly. The machines also store and transmit data from the field, allowing hospital-based professionals to view and interpret the information and make informed decisions about the patient’s care.
With a team of over 100 members, the West Shore Medical Center Auxiliary provides support throughout the hospital, operates the Bits of Cheer Gift Shop in the hospital lobby, and is active in fundraising efforts.
