West Shore Medical Center Welcomes Diabetic Educator

Vickee Sawhill, FNP-BC, CDE will offer individual counseling and group diabetic education

West Shore Medical Center is pleased to welcome Vickee Sawhill, FNP-BC, CDE, as team lead of the hospital's comprehensive diabetic education program. 

Sawhill will work closely with area primary care providers to help patients take control of their diabetes, providing one-on-one counseling to those newly diagnosed or struggling to manage their condition. She will also lead certified group diabetic self-management education classes involving West Shore's multidisciplinary team, which includes a nurse, dietician, pharmacist, and exercise specialist. 

A graduate of Ferris State University, Sawhill received her advanced practice nursing degree from Grand Valley State University. She is a board certified family nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator. 

Most recently, Sawhill was in private practice at Manistee Family Health Care, where she provided comprehensive preventive care, screening, diagnosis, and education for patients of all ages. She has been an associate member of West Shore Medical Center's medical staff for many years and is an adjunct faculty member at Michigan State University and Grand Valley State University.

Sawhill will see patients by referral. Individuals who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, pre-diabetes, or gestational diabetes or who need help managing their condition should talk to their primary care provider about whether they could benefit from diabetic education.
