Rehabilitation Services - For many patients, hospital care does not end with discharge. To help restore movement, strength, and good health, we offer comprehensive rehab services of many kinds. Available to patients during their stay and after leaving the hospital, or to those who are treated as outpatients, most services are offered at several convenient locations. Our philosophy is “the patient always comes first.” You will receive one-on-one attention from skilled and caring therapists who will do whatever they can to help you get back to doing what you want to do as quickly as possible.

Occupational Therapy - Occupational therapists help people regain their strength and daily living skills following an illness or injury. They also assist people who have a progressive illness, such as Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease, maintain their strength and adjust to changing mobility. Therapies include:

  • Activities of daily living training

  • Cognitive rehab

  • Coordination and dexterity

  • Custom splints for hand, wrist, elbow injuries or surgeries

  • Energy conservation

  • Home evaluations

  • Lymphedema (swelling of arms or legs)

  • Manual therapy (hands-on therapy for musculoskeletal pain and disability)

  • Pain control

  • Sleep management

  • Orthopedic and neurological disorders

  • Pediatric rehab

  • Stress management

  • Upper extremity strength training

  • Work Right program, including ergonomic support and work site evaluations

Physical Therapy - Physical therapists help patients feel better and live better lives. Whether working with an accident victim or someone with a disabling condition, our physical therapists will determine the best course of action to help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and limit or prevent permanent physical disabilities. Our physical therapists create individualized plans to meet each person’s specific needs and help them regain strength and function. They offer encouragement each step of the way while promoting overall fitness and wellness. Physical Therapy includes:

  • Aquatic therapy at community pools in Boyne City, Charlevoix, and East Jordan and onsite in Boyne City

  • Back exercises and care instructions

  • Fibromyalgia exercise programs and education

Speech and Cognitive Therapy -  We provide specialized therapy for those with numerous speech and cognitive problems, including:

  • Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)

  • Forming sentences and comprehension

  • Hoarseness, volume, and pitch

  • Information recall

  • Nutrition and dehydration issues

  • Pediatric word formation and pronunciation

  • Problem solving

  • Slow or slurred speech

  • Stroke and brain tumor speech issue

Sports Medicine - GET BACK IN THE GAME! Injury, illness, aches, and pains can affect anyone, at any time of life. But they don't have to cramp your style, limit your activities, or put an end to your athletic career. Our specially-trained therapists are experts at getting you safely back into the game after a sports injury. We work with athletes of all ages at our rehab centers. We also attend junior varsity and varsity home games for Boyne City and East Jordan schools and hold off-season training camps to help prevent injuries.

Having Surgery? Take a Class First - We offer a free class for anyone who is having hip or knee replacement, neck or back fusion surgery at the hospital. Classes are held every Tuesday afternoon. Patients will learn what they should do before surgery to prepare, what to expect after surgery, and what to do to aid recovery. The team approach includes a nurse, nutritionist and a social worker in addition to rehab therapists.
