Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital (POMH), in conjunction with the Betsie Hosick Health & Fitness Center, will host a free, 10-week exercise program aimed at newly diagnosed cancer patients, those who are undergoing treatment, in remission, and cancer survivors two years post treatment. The Journey Program is offered at the fitness center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 pm – 2 pm starting on March 12.
Certified trainers collaborate with each participant to design an individualized exercise program that incorporates strength training, cardiovascular exercises, core, balance, flexibility, and postural training. Whether the participant wants to create a stronger and resilient body early on to better manage the effects of cancer treatments such as radiation and/or chemotherapy, or regain strength and flexibility post-treatment, the Journey Program is designed to meet the needs of the individual in this small group setting.
“This program not only provides an avenue for physical health, but also builds a community of individuals that share a similar experience and support one another,” said Adrienne Stephens Jones, Director of Rehabilitation Services at POMH and Betsie Hosick Health & Fitness Center.
The Journey Program class size is limited to 10 and course pre-registration is required. Contact the Betsie Hosick Health & Fitness Center at 231-352-9661 to register.
