Practicing good hand hygiene is the single most important strategy for preventing healthcare-associated infections. It’s also one of the best ways to protect our patients and our Healthcare Team. Which is why we recently kicked off our “Committed to Healthy Hands” campaign promoting best practices. Our Hand Hygiene Steering Committee has also been working diligently to develop and implement a robust Hand Hygiene program across the MHC system.
One aspect is the adoption of John Hopkins' Hand Hygiene interactive training program, which trains staff to conduct regular hand hygiene observations. Observations are logged resulting in a Hand Hygiene scorecard, which is shared to promote transparency, call attention to our team successes, and identify areas for retraining and improvement.
By washing frequently, and correctly, we can ensure we deliver the highest level of care. Also, please use peer coaching if you see a colleague forget to wash between patient interactions. Quality hand hygiene practices helps to slow the spread of illness and keep everyone safe!
