As there has been confusion about whether a home test for COVID-19 should be used for diagnosis or isolation purposes, MHC's Clinical Leadership Council (CLC) recommends the following clinical guidance:
-
If a symptomatic patient tests positive for COVID-19 using an at-home antigen test, the test CAN be accepted to inform treatment and isolation, i.e., PCR test is NOT required for outpatients, inpatients, and observation.
-
Prior to admission or observation, a patient will receive a PCR test to confirm a COVID-19 diagnosis in either of the following cases:
-
Patient is symptomatic but home test is negative for COVID-19.
-
Patient is asymptomatic but home test is positive for COVID-19.
