Events Set for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Cowell Family Cancer Center promotes several activities, awareness opportunities

The Cowell Family Cancer Center will host several events and promote others during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Events at the cancer center are free, however registration is recommended. To register, email ehaan2@mhc.net or call 231-392-8492.

Following are the dates and events for the month:
Oct. 1 
The annual Remembrance Run and Health and Wellness Fair is planned from 8 a.m. - noon at Timber Ridge RV Recreation Resort. The event is sponsored by the Traverse City Track Club to 
benefit the Women’s Cancer Fund. Register online at remembrancerun.com.

A reception for “Other Words for Nature” Women’s Art Exhibit, part of the Aesthetics in Health Partnership with Interlochen Arts Academy, will be at 4 p.m. in the Third Floor Reflection
Gallery at the Cowell Family Cancer Center.

Oct. 3
The film “One Way: A Journey to This Moment” about a young mother’s discoveries about life, while facing death, will be shown at 6 p.m. at the State Theatre in Traverse City. The film is sponsored by the Traverse City Film Festival; State Theatre; Matthew Smith, M.D.; Cowell Family Cancer Center; and Smith Family Breast Health Center.

Oct. 11
Cowell Wellness Initiative Speaker Series presents “A is for Apple” with Laura McCain, R.D., from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the first floor staff lounge at the Cowell Family Cancer Center.

Oct. 15
Recovery Plus will be offered from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa for breast cancer patients and survivors. Speakers include oncologist David Heimburger, M.D., and Mary Raymer, LMSW, ACSW, DPNAP. Advance online registration is required atmunsonhealthcare.org/RecoveryPlus2016event.

Oct. 19
The Jon Whelan documentary “Stink” about toxic chemicals will be shown at 5:30 p.m. in the Cowell Family Cancer Center basement REMEC Room.

Oct. 20
“What You Can Do to Prevent Cancer,” an informative evening with Bill Couzens, founder of National Cancer Prevention Day, will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Cowell Family Cancer Center basement REMEC Room.

Oct. 25
A girls’ night out called “Bras, Yoga, Shiatsu and Fun” for breast cancer patients and survivors is from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Cowell Family Cancer Center Health and Wellness Suite on
the second floor. Speakers will be Chris Jeffries, M.D., and Steve Thomas, M.D.
