Experts Discuss: Eat, Drink, Race, Recover

Just how amazing we can feel during and after a workout or endurance race, and whether or not we achieve our athletic goals, is tied to how well we fuel our bodies.  
Terence Reuben, physical therapist, and Todd Buckingham, Ph.D., lead exercise physiologist, both with Mary Free Bed Sports Rehabilitation, along with Stephen Andriese, M.D., share insight on the importance of fueling smart to perform well during a free talk from 6 - 7 p.m. at the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA West on June 18.

The conversation will cover:

  • Fueling and its impacts on athletic performance
  • An athlete’s perspective on fueling and performance
  • Clinical implications of poor fueling and performance

Physical therapist and triathlete Terence Reuben serves as director of sports rehabilitation at Mary Free Bed and specializes in orthopedics, manual therapy, sports medicine, foot biomechanics and personal training.

Todd Buckingham, Ph.D., an endurance athlete, serves as lead exercise physiologist at Mary Free Bed Sports Rehabilitation and operates the performance laboratory.  

Dr. Stephen Andriese has been practicing physical medicine and rehabilitation for 22 years. His specialty interest is interventional spine and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Andriese, an endurance athlete, practiced with Mary Free Bed and Metro Hospital for nine years before moving to Traverse City and joining Neuromuscular and Rehab Associates of Northern Michigan in 1996.
