Launch of giving season provides local opportunities for northern Michigan hospitals
Giving means many things to many people.
A Grayling family’s generosity made it possible for newborns at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital to have new radiant warmers.
In Traverse City, on any given day, nursing staff members can be found digging into their wallets to pay for a gas card, meal or other need to support and encourage a patient or their family. In Cadillac, a cardiac rehabilitation unit recently was renovated and reopened thanks to several donors seeing the need and offering their financial support.
Giving is part of the Munson Healthcare community fabric and now Munson Healthcare Foundations Chief Development Officer Desiree Worthington says the health system offers like-minded residents in the region the opportunity to join in on #GivingTuesday, Tuesday, Nov. 29, a day set aside to give back to others around them in meaningful ways.
“We are so thankful for the generosity of northern Michigan residents and our staff over the years,” she said. “#GivingTuesday is about ordinary people coming together to accomplish extraordinary things. Munson Healthcare hospitals offer several different ways to give that promote quality health care and a positive patient experience.”
In 2015, more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries participated in #GivingTuesday and helped raise nearly $117 million online in the U.S. alone. Since its founding in 2012, the day signifies the launch of the giving season and has promoted community collaborations benefiting scores of local charities.
This #GivingTuesday, Munson Healthcare Foundations will be sending an email to supporters and encouraging those who have not yet considered a gift to their local hospital or Munson Hospice to remember local health needs in the season of giving.
“We’re encouraging people to use the hashtag #GivingTuesday to talk about how important it is to support your local hospital,” Worthington said.
