Kalkaska Memorial Health Center will break ground on a new medical pavilion during a short ceremony on July 19.

Hospital officials invite the public to join them outside the hospital beginning at noon for the groundbreaking followed by hors d’oeuvres in the Stone House on the hospital’s campus. The event concludes at 2 p.m.

Administrator Kevin Rogols said the structure is part of the hospital’s commitment to the community to provide care close to home.

“We’re excited to see this project go from architectural drawings to reality,” he said. “There will be a state-of-the-art facility here when this is completed next summer.”

The $13 million, 30,000-square-feet project will house physician services as well as space for chemotherapy and infusion therapy services. There also will be dedicated rooms for patient education on chronic disease such as diabetes.

The project flows out of interviews with community leaders about health care needs and is financially possible due to voter-approved hospital millage renewal in May 2017.
