Kalkaska Memorial Health Center offers area a safe solution for medical waste

Area residents with diabetes and other conditions that require home use of needles or other sharps materials often struggle with how to safely dispose of the materials after use.

Kalkaska Memorial Health Center will offer area residents a free means to dispose of their medical sharps waste at a Community Sharps Disposal Day from 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 27. Area residents can drop off their sharps – needles, syringes, and lancets – at the hospital’s main entrance in these approved containers:

  • Medical sharps container
  • Heavy-duty plastic laundry detergent jug with tight-fitting lid
  • Metal coffee can with secure lid Pills and liquids will not be accepted.

The sharps drop-off will be offered quarterly. Residents are advised to never put sharps needles into their recycling or normal household waste.
