02.04.2015

Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital staff celebrated Dietary Manager’s Pride in Food Service Week with an assortment of activities designed to applaud Food Services staff and recognize the many contributions they make to the daily operations of the organization.

In Wednesday afternoon’s Cupcake War, Food Services staff members competed individually or in teams for honors and prizes. Each participant contributed two to four entries, which were rated by guest judges on qualities including taste, creativity, and presentation. Guest judges included Kirsten Korth-White, Chief Operating Officer, Mary Jo Schrank, Director of Finance, Carl Seils, Director of Facilities, Grover Raymond, Director of Radiology & Cardiopulmonary, and Valerie Hendricks, Executive Assistant.

Kali Lawson and Heather Ferrigan of Team Blondie took home the Overall Winner title for their “Made with Love” cupcake – a chocolate fudge cupcake with cream cheese frosting, Valentine’s Day themed edible decorations, and a miniature Reese’s peanut butter cup on top. As the winners, they will receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant or shop. The pair also earned recognition for their “Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino” cupcake (Best Taste) and “Hamburger Basket” (Most Creative).

“Our staff members’ spirits are especially high right now as we celebrate Pride in Food Services Week and our transition to Munson Healthcare,” said Lynn Hunter, Manager of Food Services at Grayling Hospital. Ownership of the hospital officially transferred to Munson Healthcare on February 1.

Other honors went to Courtney Lamie and Barb Davey’s “Hooters Owl” cupcakes (Best Presentation). Honorable mentions were awarded to Shannon Forbes, Deb Helsel, and Cathy Noack’s “Orange Creamsicle” cupcakes and Terrie Bruce’s “Black Bottom” cupcakes.

Remaining cupcakes will be shared with elders at Crawford Continuing Care Center (formerly Mercy Manor) at a meet and greet later this week. Photos from the event can be found on the hospital’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/graylinghospital
