Immunity Status Post COVID-19 Vaccination

Immunity Status Post COVID-19 Vaccination
05.04.2021

A reminder that people are considered fully vaccinated:

  • 2 weeks after their 2nd dose in a 2-dose vaccine series (i.e., Pfizer, Moderna), or
  • 2 weeks after a 1-dose vaccine (i.e., Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen)

Although we can’t quantify how immune an individual is after becoming fully vaccinated, the New England Journal of Medicine recently published interim results showing excellent antibody levels at 6 months after second dose of the Moderna vaccine. Protection likely lasts well beyond that; however, this continues to be studied. We anticipate that COVID-19 vaccine boosters may be needed at some point in the future due to either waning immunity or the emergence of vaccine resistant variants.

As studies continue to show vaccine immunity is long-lasting, CDC has removed the post-vaccination time limit on fully vaccinated status.
