Scenario involves an active shooter situation; law enforcement will participate

Kalkaska Memorial Health Center will conduct an emergency drill involving an active shooter situation on Friday, April 8.

Hospitals are required by the accrediting agency the Joint Commission to stage annual exercises to practice staff response to potential emergency scenarios. The drill will not affect or impact normal patient care and flow.

“These kinds of drills help us stay in a mode of continuous readiness for various types of emergency situations,” said Kevin Rogols, administrator at the hospital. “Our goal is always to promote and maintain the safety and security of our patients and staff.”

Drills help the hospital work on coordination with area first responders. Area law enforcement agencies will participate in the active shooter scenario. Signs will be posted at the hospital stating that a drill is in progress and visitors will be advised as well.

Kalkaska Memorial Health Center is located at 419 South Coral St. in Kalkaska.
