Kalkaska Memorial Health Center’s long-term care director recently was honored by the state chapter of a national nursing administrator leadership organization.

The hospital’s Service Line Director of Nursing Renee Cunningham, R.N., was named 2017 Nurse Administrator of the Year Northern Region by the Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration in Long Term Care (NADONA/LTC). She was nominated by members of her staff.

“I was shocked. It makes me feel very special and valued as a leader to be seen as an asset and resource for our team members here,” she said.

Kalkaska Memorial’s long-term care unit is a 104-bed skilled nursing facility with 110 staff members that include nurses, nurse assistants, social workers, and activities staff. CMS ranks the facility with five stars, the highest possible.

Cunningham first joined Kalkaska Memorial Health Center in 1989 and served as assistant director at the facility before assuming her full leadership role of the facility in 2007.
