Local Artist Dan Hogan Featured in the Healing Arts Gallery
03.10.2015

The beautiful oil paintings of local artist Dan Hogan are in display in West Shore Medical Center’s Healing Arts Gallery now through the end of April. The exhibit includes works inspired by the artist’s life experiences.

Hogan has lived in Manistee most of his life, having moved to the area from Grand Rapids when he was a child. He is familiar to many in the community as one of the proprietors of Hogan Plumbing and Heating, a business he started with his brother. Hogan and his wife have four children.

While he had often thought about pursuing art, Hogan did not pick up a paintbrush until age 65, after he had been retired from the family business. For the past several years, he has taken classes with Professor Cherie Petri at West Shore Community College. Landscapes are his favorite subjects. Some of the paintings on display are of scenes in Italy, inspired by a trip he took with his wife.

Hogan shies away from praise, and none of the work on exhibit is for sale. He says he is not looking for the glory in his work; he simply likes creating it.

The Healing Arts Gallery, developed in conjunction with the Manistee Art Institute, was established to support West Shore Medical Center’s goal of creating a comfortable, attractive, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The public is invited to browse the gallery, which is located near the Café on the main floor of West Shore Medical Center at 1465 E. Parkdale Ave. in Manistee.
