Manistee Community Health Center Slated to Open in December

Construction of Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital’s 45,000 square foot Community Health Center building is nearly complete. The hospital expects to begin seeing patients in the new facility in early December.

“Crews are putting the finishing touches on the building and grounds, and we anticipate being able to start moving equipment and supplies in next month,” said Manistee Hospital CEO James Barker.

The $13 million project will improve the hospital’s ability to deliver quality care. The building will house several specialty clinics, including general surgery, orthopedics, neurology, and urology. This additional clinical space will improve patient flow and provide the hospital’s physician network much-needed room to grow.

Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, currently located in the lower level of the hospital, will relocate to the Community Health Center. The new space will be easier for patients to access and will allow the installation of additional treatment options.

“Clinic moves will be staggered to minimize disruption to staff and patients,” said Barker. “Patients will be notified when the location of their appointments changes.”

The hospital’s full-service fitness center, Manistee Health Connection, will move to the new building as well, and much of the exercise equipment will be updated. “We have exciting things in store for our re-opening,” said Dursa Marshall, manager of the fitness center. “We hope to be open in early December.”

Roadway and lot improvements are also being wrapped up. “The changes will improve the flow of traffic through our campus and help ensure safe and ample parking for our patients and visitors,” said Barker.

Remediation efforts continue at Manistee Medical Offices. The building experienced a rooftop fire in late August that required extensive clean-up and replacement of equipment and supplies. Work to get the building back to pre-event condition is expected to continue at least through November. Provider offices are working out of alternate locations in other buildings or in the hospital. Patients with questions about their visits are asked to contact their health care provider’s office.

Barker expressed his appreciation to the community for their patience. “I know this has been a challenging time, and our patients, visitors, and employees have been incredibly understanding. We look forward to sharing our improved facilities with everyone very soon.”
