Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Offers Pay While Learning
04.04.2023

A collaboration between Munson Healthcare, Baker College, and Michigan Works! is helping break down barriers to a career in healthcare.

Now in its third year, the nine-month medical assistant apprenticeship program pays participants a wage  as well as provides free tuition at Baker College lectures and laboratory training. The tuition is paid for by Michigan Works! and Munson Healthcare.

“This is a great opportunity for people looking to establish themselves in healthcare but especially those who cannot afford to go without a job to obtain training,” said Jordan Cline, a Munson Healthcare Human Resources recruiter.

Those selected for the program will be paid to work at a Munson Healthcare facility while receiving their training. When the program is completed, participants will have an opportunity to complete the American Academy of Medical Assistants certification as a medical assistant and then required to fulfill a service commitment with Munson Healthcare.

Medical assistants are responsible for both administrative and clinical duties such as answering phones, greeting patients, documenting and updating medical records, taking medical histories, explaining treatments, preparing patients for an examination and more.

Starting pay for the apprenticeship is $16.04 per hour and after a 180-day introductory period it increases to $16.29 per hour. Wages increase based on experience and completing certification.

There are multiple slots for the program. Interested candidates can view the job description and apply here.  A recruiter will follow up with applicants. The program starts Aug. 27.
