New service makes it much easier for patients to receive care close to home

Kalkaska Memorial Health Center just made MRI screenings more convenient.

Starting this month, the hospital’s MRI will be available for outpatient screening from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. every other Saturday.

Director of Ambulatory Services Daniel Conklin, DPT, said the new option will make it easier for patients who have a hard time scheduling a screening during the week in Kalkaska due to their job or available appointment slots. The hospital also offers MRI appointments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.

“We know those times have been consistently filled and people would either have to travel out of town or wait 10 days to get in,” he said. “Now they can potentially get in sooner and find it easier to work around their schedule.”

Kalkaska Memorial Health Center offered its first Saturday appointments on Dec. 5. Conklin said the expanded option was well received by patients and all screening slots were filled.

Patients must have a physician’s order to have an MRI scheduled. When working with the scheduler, patients should ask about Saturday availability if they are interested.
