Munson Medical Center fills CNO role; health system fills two new positions

Munson Healthcare recently announced three new leaders have joined the organization, two in new posts.

Lorraine Frank-Lightfoot, D.N.P., R.N., NEA-BC, has joined Munson Medical Center as vice president of Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer. She replaces former chief nursing officer Jim Fischer, who recently retired.

Frank-Lightfoot formerly served as chief nursing officer at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., and has teaching experience as an adjunct assistant professor at The Ohio State University and as a lecturer for Purdue University in Fort Wayne.

“Munson Medical Center really presents a unique opportunity in that it melds a community hospital culture and feeling with the services of a regional center and teaching hospital,” she said. “The medical system and the hospital have much to offer.”

As chief nursing officer at Parkview, she was responsible for nursing operations for the three largest facilities in the Parkview Health System and led nursing practice for nurses caring for patients in more than 700 beds.

New Chief Medical Officer of Munson Healthcare

Christine Nefcy, M.D., FAAP, has joined Munson Healthcare in a new position as chief medical officer for the hospital system. Dr. Nefcy served as chief medical officer for the North Region at Intermountain Healthcare in Utah for the past five years.

She received her medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., and performed her residency in pediatrics at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She also served as a pediatrician in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years and served for a time at Creekside Clinic in Traverse City before moving to Utah.

“I have always known that Munson Healthcare was a great organization. And during my interviews, I really got the sense that we have wonderful people working here, dedicated administrators, and a solid vision for the future,” she said. As chief medical officer, Dr. Nefcy will work with physician leadership at Munson Healthcare-owned hospitals on clinical quality and other best-practice medical issues.

Dr. Nefcy is a Fellow of the Academy of GE Fellows and the Intermountain Healthcare executive development program. She retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 2018.

New Executive Director of Women's and Children's Services of Munson Healthcare

Mary Schubert, M.S.N., NE-BE, RNC-OB, EFM-C, has joined Munson Healthcare in a new position as the executive director of Women’s and Children’s Services. She formerly served as clinical services and operations director for Women’s and Newborn Services at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s in Grand Rapids, Mich. Prior to that, Schubert served as a nursing manager at a large birth center at Covenant Health Care in Saginaw, Mich.

“What really drew me to the role was the opportunity to serve women and children in a coordinated way,” she said. “Munson Healthcare’s strategy of providing care close to home is full of so many possibilities. It is really exciting to be part of this.”

In her role, Schubert will provide oversight for areas related to women and children in Munson Healthcare-owned hospitals, including preventive care for women, childbirth, and pediatric care.
