Munson Healthcare Announces New Outpatient Surgery Center Plans in Gaylord and Cadillac
08.08.2024

Munson Healthcare's Board of Directors granted approval for the development of two new joint venture outpatient surgery centers in Cadillac and Gaylord. These centers are integral components of Munson Healthcare's Regional Care Transformation Plan, aimed at meeting the evolving needs of patients throughout the region.

Both outpatient surgery centers will operate as joint ventures with local surgeons, similar to the successful model established at Copper Ridge Surgery Center in Traverse City. This collaborative approach ensures that the centers are tailored to the specific needs of the communities they serve, fostering a patient-centric environment focused on quality outcomes and personalized care.

“We recognized a need for outpatient surgical centers and determined that Cadillac and Gaylord were the optimal geographic locations to enhance access to high-quality, low-cost regional healthcare services, given their proximity to our regional hospitals,” said Laura Glenn, Chief Operating Officer at Munson Healthcare. “We’re excited to offer a partnership opportunity with local surgeons and to bring advanced surgical services closer to home for residents.”

The new surgery centers will offer a lower cost option for many surgeries while continuing to provide high quality care close to home. The centers will complement the full range of surgical services currently offered at Cadillac and Otsego Memorial Hospitals, reinforcing Munson Healthcare's dedication to comprehensive care delivery. Munson Healthcare’s investment in these centers represents a significant milestone, underscoring a commitment to investing in the region's health infrastructure.

ASCs (Ambulatory Surgery Centers), also called outpatient surgery centers, provide patients with the convenience of undergoing surgeries and procedures safely outside of traditional hospital settings, when appropriate. By adding two new ASCs to its network, Munson Healthcare aims to free up operating room capacity at its hospitals for procedures requiring overnight stays, optimizing resource utilization, and enhancing patient access to surgical care.

The Cadillac ASC will be located at the corner of South Mitchell St. and Franke Rd., site activity has already started. The Gaylord ASC will be located at 825 N. Center Ave., with site activity beginning in Fall 2024.
