Munson Healthcare (MHC) President and CEO Ed Ness recently announced changes to the health system’s senior leadership team with the promotion of Laura Glenn to chief operating officer and the appointment of Shelley Spencer to chief human resources officer.
Glenn, who joined MHC in 2017, most recently served as president of ambulatory services and value-based care for the health system.
“Laura has demonstrated outstanding leadership and has helped transform us for the future,” Ness said. “During the pandemic, Laura co-led the Munson Healthcare System Operations Incident Command which helped operational teams across northern Michigan navigate a multitude of changes as a result of new regulatory requirements, supply chain disruptions, staffing shortages, and shifting patient needs.”
Glenn will now have additional responsibility for all the operational aspects of the health system including inpatient care, outpatient care, and the physician network.
Prior to joining Munson Healthcare, Glenn was the senior vice president and executive director of Beaumont Health Physician Partners. She has a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan.
Spencer joins the health system from the Christ Hospital Health Network in Cincinnati, Ohio where she was vice president/chief people and marketing officer. She replaces longtime human resources leader Sue Peters, who announced last spring that she would be stepping down from her role in September.
Ness said Spencer stood out as a transformational leader during the national search for Peters’ replacement.
“At her previous position she created and built innovative programs to support employee needs and nurture their career growth, established an office of diversity, inclusion and equity, and reshaped human resources and employee health functions to align with new organizational strategies,” Ness said. “Shelley has had a unique career leading both human resources and marketing teams across healthcare, pharmaceutical and advertising industries — all with the common thread of connecting with, engaging, and inspiring people.”
Spencer assumed her new role on Oct. 3.
