Munson Healthcare Guidelines: Elective Surgery/Procedure and Anesthesia for Patients Following COVID-19 Infections
02.03.2022

A reminder to please refer to the Munson Healthcare Guidelines for Elective Surgery/Procedures and Anesthesia for Patients Following COVID-19 Infections when considering a patient for elective surgeries and procedures after a COVID-19 infection. These guidelines were developed by a Munson Healthcare team of anesthesiologists, surgeons, infectious disease physicians, and other clinical stakeholders based on the recommendations of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (ASPF).

  • NOTE: Our interdisciplinary team’s recommendation varied slightly from the ASPF guidelines for patients who were asymptomatic with a shorter 10-day wait time after a positive test. Procedures can be rescheduled starting at 10 days after a positive COVID test if the patient doesn’t develop symptoms.

  • If the patient does develop symptoms prior to the procedure, please follow MHC’s guidelines and reschedule the patient based on symptomology.

  • The patient does not need to be re-tested for COVID prior to their rescheduled procedure.
