Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital is proud to announce the recertification of its cardiac rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This national certification is recognition of Manistee Hospital’s commitment to improving the quality of life of patients by enhancing standards of care. The certification is valid for three years.
“We are thrilled to once again receive this certification for our program,” said Esther Sigurdardottir, Manistee Hospital Rehabilitation Director. “This honor recognizes the excellent care provided by our skilled and compassionate team.”
The program is designed to help patients recover faster and live healthier. “Cardiac rehabilitation can benefit those who have suffered heart attacks, individuals who have coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, certain congenital heart conditions or other cardiovascular concerns, and those who have had heart surgery or have a cardiac implant,” explained Sigurdardottir. The program includes supervised exercise, education, counseling, and support. Sigurdardottir notes that patients truly enjoy coming to their rehabilitation sessions. “It’s a great social experience for many, and while they’re working hard, they’re having fun, too.”
“Manistee Hospital has a robust heart program, allowing Manistee County residents to get the follow-up care and testing they need close to home after a cardiac event,” said Sigurdardottir. To earn accreditation, Manistee Hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation team participated in an application process that requires extensive documentation of the program’s practices. AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other related professional societies. Each program’s application is reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee, and certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors.
In 2018, AACVPR moved to an outcomes-based process with performance measurements that represent more meaningful outcomes. AACVPR-certified programs are leaders in field because they offer the most advanced practices available and have proven track records of high-quality patient care.
