Munson Healthcare is proud to announce that it has been recognized for the second consecutive year as one of the nation’s 15 Top Health Systems™. This recognition, reported by Fortune and PINC AI™, the technology and services brand of Premier, Inc, also places Munson Healthcare as the fourth ranked medium-sized healthcare system in the nation.

The PINC AI™ 15 Top Health Systems™ Annual Report performs a comprehensive and objective analysis of data from 2017 to 2022 to find the best health systems. The report checks how well hospitals do in four areas: clinical outcomes, extended outcomes, operational efficiency, and patient experience. Munson Healthcare’s sustained excellence in these areas underscores its commitment to providing high-quality care to our Northern Michigan communities.

Ed Ness, President and CEO of Munson Healthcare, expressed profound gratitude to the entire Munson Healthcare team for their unwavering dedication and hard work. “This recognition is a testament to our collective commitment to excellence in patient care. Our team has been recognized on a national level for improving patient outcomes, reducing readmissions and complications, and creating exceptional experiences for our patients,” said Ness. “This honor is not something we applied for or opted into; it is an earned distinction reflecting the exceptional quality of our services and the outcomes we achieve as a team.”

The 15 Top Health Systems™ Annual Report, now in its 16th year, highlights that if all health systems performed at the level of this year’s top performers, more than 220,000 additional lives could be saved, and over 196,000 patients could avoid complications annually. Compared to peer health systems, the top performers had 21% fewer inpatient deaths, 13.8% fewer patients with complications, and 21% fewer healthcare-associated infections. They also reported higher patient satisfaction and a shorter average length of stay by 0.5 days.

Michael J. Alkire, Premier’s President and CEO, praised the top health systems for their innovative leadership and data-driven strategies. “Premier applauds these 15 Top Health Systems™ for their accomplishment and demonstrated success in positively impacting the patient experience, enterprise operations, and clinical outcomes for the patients and communities they serve.”
