Tonya Smith brings leadership experience from 445-bed Virginia hospital

Munson Healthcare President and CEO Ed Ness announced today that Tonya Smith has been named president of Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital, currently Mercy Hospital Cadillac.

“I am pleased to announce that after a national search for a new president for Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital, Tonya Smith will join us in that role effective Feb. 23. She was the unanimous choice of the search committee after reviewing input from the medical staff, hospital board, and members of the senior leadership team,” Ness said. “Tonya brings extensive leadership experience to the organization and will help ensure the Cadillac community’s care needs are met as the hospital transitions to Munson Healthcare.”

The search committee included three members of the Mercy Hospital Cadillac board.

Smith joins the Munson Healthcare system after serving for the past six years as the Winchester Medical Center vice president of operations and the Valley Health System vice president of corporate ancillary services in Virginia. Winchester Medical Center is a 445-bed tertiary acute care hospital in Winchester, Va.

Before her executive role, Smith served as director of pharmacy services at Winchester Medical Center. She also led pharmacy services efforts at two West Virginia hospitals earlier in her career.

In addition to a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Smith has both a master of science in health care administration degree, and master of business administration degree from the University of Maryland University College in Adelphia, Maryland.

Smith is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
