Joanne L. Schroeder joins health care system after leading hospital in South Haven

Munson Healthcare announces a new president has been selected for Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital.

Joanne L. Schroeder, FACHE, has been chosen to replace retiring President Lyn Jenks. She will join the organization in mid-June. Schroeder is the chief operating officer and vice president for Bronson South Haven Hospital in South Haven, Mich. Prior to the hospital’s merger with Bronson Healthcare in January of this year, she had served as the president and CEO of the hospital since 2006.

“We are pleased to welcome Joanne to the Munson Healthcare leadership team,” said Ed Ness, president and CEO of Munson Healthcare. “Joanne understands the challenges of small community hospitals and has strong management and leadership experience to carry forward the great foundation of care established in Charlevoix.”

Schroeder brings 25 years of experience in the health care industry. Prior to her CEO role at South Haven, she served in roles as vice president of patient care services for Mary Free Bed Hospital and Rehabilitation Center and before that was vice president of patient care services in South Haven.

“We just love the Charlevoix area and we love northern Michigan,” she said. “After having the opportunity to meet with the board, Munson Healthcare leadership, physicians, the management team and employees, it seemed like a great fit and I believe we will be able to do great things together.”

Schroeder holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing from Grand Valley State University and a master’s degree in health care administration from Ohio University.

She is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and a member of the Rural Health Clinic Association and Small & Rural Health Clinic Council.
