Over 95 artists submitted pieces that demonstrate resilience, spread hope

Munson Healthcare today announced the top four art pieces from its recent Voices for Recovery Virtual Art exhibition and extended its gratitude to everyone who supported the exhibition.

This year’s Voices for Recovery exhibit proudly displays more than 95 pieces, telling stories of recovery, inspiring hope, and celebrating resilience. Four works were the top vote-getters receiving special recognition for the number of reactions and outpouring of support from the community through virtual participation, which included the following pieces:

  • Better Days – Constance Mahoney, East Jordan
  • Recover Loudly – Ophelia McGrath, Traverse City
  • Behind Closed Doors – Marcy Murdick, Cheboygan
  • Recovery is Hard – Ava Bartz, Traverse City

"We are deeply thankful to everyone who made this exhibit a success," said Jim Whelan, MD, Medical Director of Munson’s Clinically Integrated Network. "The support from our community has been overwhelming, and it is inspiring to see how art can serve as a beacon of hope and healing for so many."

The exhibit featured a wide array of artwork, including: paintings, poetry, and multimedia pieces, all created by local artists and individuals with personal stories related to recovery. Hundreds of visitors viewed the works online and engaged with the inspiring stories behind each piece. All artists received a $50 gift card for their submissions.

The digital exhibition remains live for viewing, and viewers may continue to show support for artists by dropping an emoji in the gallery. Additionally, viewers can take the pledge to raise awareness and reduce stigma for individuals impacted by substance use disorder (SUD).
