Munson Medical Center (MMC) has moved up a spot to No. 6 on U.S. News and World Report’s rankings for Best Hospitals in Michigan.

Nearly 6,000 hospitals were evaluated in the publication’s 35th annual report – more than any other public hospital ranking – which bases the list on safety and performance measures across 30 medical and surgical services. MMC was rated a high-performing hospital in 14 different procedures/conditions in areas that include Cardiology, Stroke, Neurology, Orthopedics, Maternity Care, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, and Nephrology.  Just 17 hospitals in Michigan were on the list, with MMC coming in sixth.

“This recognition truly reflects the dedication of our providers, clinical staff, and support staff and the high level at which they perform each day,” said Joe Hurshe, president and CEO of Munson Medical Center. “Moving up to sixth this year is certainly an indicator of our growth as a hub for specialty care in many different areas including our designation as Northern Michigan’s first and only Comprehensive Stroke Center.”

The U.S. News and World Report’s list includes 466 hospitals from across the nation and help guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies include objective measures such as patient outcomes, how well hospitals follow best standards of care, infection rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, technologies, and more.
