New Family Practice Residents Begin Their Training

Munson Healthcare’s Family Practice Residency program recently welcomed six new residents to begin their training at health system hospitals and clinics.

Members of the Class of 2026 include:

Elizabeth Abel, MD, MPH, who was born and raised in Clarkston, Mich. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology after attending the University of Michigan and Oakland University. Dr. Abel graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and also earned a master’s degree in public health at the school. She was part of the leadership at the MSU Rural Medicine campus in Traverse City and is excited to stay in northern Michigan for her residency. In her free time, Dr. Abel enjoys spending time with her cat and taking advantage of the outdoor recreation in the region, especially skiing and hiking. 

John ‘Jack’ Cleary, MD, who is a native of Ann Arbor. He earned his undergraduate degree at Kalamazoo College and met lifelong friends as a student-athlete at "K,” playing baseball for the Hornets.  After studying experimental psychology as a graduate student at Wayne State University, Dr. Cleary pursued and graduated from medical school at Saba University Medical School in the Caribbean.  Athletics have always been a major part of his life. In his spare time, Dr. Cleary enjoys a ball game, supporting Notre Dame football, or three-putting for bogey from 10 feet.

Kaitlyn Kilpatrick, DO, who was born in Palatka, Fla., and raised in Leesburg. She received her undergraduate degree in health sciences from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Kilpatrick completed a master’s degree in medical sciences as well as her medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton. She has a passion for full-spectrum family medicine including women’s health, geriatrics, addiction medicine, and psychosocial health. In her spare time, Dr. Kilpatrick enjoys trying new cuisines and cafes, going to the gym, exploring new trails, cooking and baking, and cuddling every furry friend she encounters.

Haley Kopkau, MD, who was born and raised in Tawas, Mich. She received her undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Central Michigan University and her medical degree from Central Michigan University College of Medicine. In her spare time, Dr. Kopkau enjoys fishing with her husband, Tim, downhill skiing, and trying out new recipes. She is passionate about women's health and is looking forward to serving the communities of northern Michigan for years to come.

Addie Loftus-Olgac, MD, who grew up in Frankenmuth, Mich. She received her undergraduate degree from Alma College in integrative physiology and health sciences with a minor in chemistry. Dr. Loftus-Olgac graduated from medical school at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences on the island of St. Kitts. She is happy to be back in Michigan with her husband and is excited to live in northern Michigan. In her free time, she enjoys biking, paddle boarding, watching the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers, and playing with her dog, Matilda.

David Stalker, MD, who was born and raised in Cadillac, Mich. He received his undergraduate degree at Ferris State University in biology and pre-medicine. During his medical training, he concurrently received a B.S. in Human Health Sciences. Dr. Stalker graduated from medical school at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine. He is excited to be back in northern Michigan for his residency training. In his free time, Dr. Stalker enjoys outdoor activities such as mountain biking, golfing, boating, snowmobiling, and many others.
