Public invited to an opening reception at the Cowell Family Cancer Center

Art expressing “Other Words for Nature” will be on exhibit from Oct. 1 through Dec. 15 at the Cowell Family Cancer Center in Traverse City.

A special opening reception for the public is set for 4 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the cancer center’s third floor Reflection Gallery. Light refreshments will be served.

“Other Words for Nature” is an Aesthetics of Health Exhibition Series sponsored by the cancer center and Interlochen Arts Academy that features the art of Angela Lopez, Kharis Kennedy, Christine Sajecki, and Sara Nicole Phillips. The show is being presented by EyeSplice – Women’s Art Collective.

Lopez, an interdisciplinary artist from Chicago, investigates the human condition through corporeal, psychological, and animal relationships. She teaches art at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.

Kennedy is a painter who centers on consumerism, commodification, and celebrity worship woven through her surroundings living in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Sajecki’s encaustic paintings are dreamy and sometimes allegorical explorations of her surroundings. Her paintings have been included in many juried and solo exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe. She lives between Baltimore, Md., and Savannah, Ga.

Phillips is a Toronto-born Brooklyn-based artist and teaches printmaking at the Lower East Side Printshop. She exhibits widely in Canada and the U.S.
