Munson Medical Center works to implement intensive outpatient services
Munson Medical Center leadership has opted to extend the Partial Hospitalization Program until expanded Intensive Outpatient Services are in place.
The hospital initially planned to close the program on July 1. Behavioral Health Director Terri Lacroix-Kelty said the hospital continues to transition to a model that focuses on evidence-based practices and maximizes the use of resources to serve as many people as possible while prioritizing quality of care.
“Our goal is to expand the safety net, not remove it, so more people can be served,” Lacroix-Kelty said. “We understand the need in our community is great.”
Lacroix-Kelty said the hospital offers a multi-disciplinary approach to outpatient behavioral health services that address the physical, behavioral, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of patient needs. The team includes a psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, nurse, licensed marriage and family therapists, as well as licensed professional counselors and master-degree social workers. They are supported by additional Munson Medical Center resources including a pharmacist, dietitian, sleep and smoking cessation specialists.
“We offer individual and family therapy and work with a patient’s family care provider to design a personalized plan for care,” she said.
Munson Medical Center continues to collaborate with community partners to address behavioral health needs in northwestern Michigan. Two recent forums helped clarify issues. A dialogue with the referral community continues.
Area providers continue to refer patients by calling the hospital’s Central Access which provides an assessment and determines the level of care needed. Referring physicians are informed if a release is signed by a patient for care.
