Patients Can Now Self-Refer for Screening Mammograms

Patients Can Now Self-Refer for Screening Mammograms
01.25.2024

To support timely patient care, promote self-advocacy, and improve outcomes, patients can now self-refer for screening mammograms at all MHC locations without requiring a provider’s order.

Patient Has a PCP

  • PCP will be notified, and results will be viewable in the patient’s chart.
  • Additional breast imaging recommended by the radiologist will require an order unless we have a conditional order on file.

Patient Does NOT Have a PCP

  • If screening mammogram is normal, the result will be mailed to the patient and available on Munson's Patient Portal.
  • If the screening mammogram is abnormal requiring additional imaging, we will contact the patient to schedule an appointment at one of our participating close-to home PCP offices.

To not delay additional imaging or biopsy if screening mammogram is abnormal, primary care providers are asked to use the Breast Imaging Conditional Order, which can be found on the For Providers | Referral Forms webpage.

Patients are encouraged to check with their health insurance provider to understand covered benefits.

Advanced 3D mammography is available at all MHC locations.
