Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital (POMH) is giving thanks to Ted Greene for a recent $500,000 gift to ensure the hospital’s radiology services and equipment remain on the leading edge in the years to come.
Family, along with Munson leaders and board members gathered for a ceremony last week (July 3) to recognize Greene for his donation. The gift was made in memory of his wife Arline who passed away from breast cancer in 2023 and in gratitude of the care he received at the POMH emergency department earlier this year.
"From the moment I arrived at the Emergency Department at Paul Oliver, I was impressed by the team, especially, Dr. Jenna Singleton who spent time listening to my concerns and symptoms to fully understand my condition,” said Ted Greene.
Dr. Singleton diagnosed Greene with a rare condition called Giant Cell Arteritis, which left untreated can lead to blindness. “My family and I are incredibly grateful for the compassionate and high-quality care that is available at our community hospital. Benzie County and our surrounding community is lucky to have such a strong local hospital.”
Ted Greene is a retired physicist with 16 grandchildren who splits his time between Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a family cabin on Crystal Lake in Frankfort, Michigan. On a placard right next to Ted and Arline’s at the entrance of the hospital is another with the names of close and now departed friends Wally and Peggy Nelson. Ted stated that seeing their names solidified his decision.
“This gift exemplifies the profound impact philanthropy can have on a community and Munson Healthcare’s ability to deliver the very best care to our patients,” said Debra Henderson, president for Munson Healthcare Foundations and chief development officer for Munson Healthcare. “Just as the Nelsons inspired Mr. Greene, we hope this donation will inspire others to join us in this important work to provide exceptional care to the communities we serve."
