Hospital teaming up with City Bike of Traverse City to fit, give away safety gear

“Stay safe out there” carries more than words from Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital staff this year at the Frankfort Art Fair.

Emergency Department nurse Barbara Smith said members of the hospital staff will be on hand at the fair on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 18 - 19, to share information on injury prevention and safety.

“We will have information on water safety, concussion prevention, fall prevention and much more,” Smith said. “We’ve learned that the best treatment for injuries is to prevent them in the first place.”

The hospital is also partnering with City Bike Shop of Traverse City to fit and give away free bike helmets and other safety gear, on Saturday, August 19th. The giveaway is made possible by a grant from the State Bureau of EMS, Trauma and Preparedness for injury prevention. These funds have also supported training for EMS providers, concussion education in local schools, the Splash into Summer Adventure Water Expo in partnership with the National Park Service, and many other initiatives.

Art Fair participants interested in helmets or the safety information should look for the hospital’s booth in Market Square Park.
