Helping the youngest citizens in the community get a good start on their education has been a commitment at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital for the past five years.

Hospital President Peter Marinoff said the programs at Lake Ann and Frankfort Elementary schools will transition to their respective school district control this fall.

“We are really proud to have provided educational support for the youngest members of our community. Our staff members have done a great job offering a high-quality program,” Marinoff said. “We know the industry standard is for schools to host child development programs and we are going to support Benzie Central Schools and Frankfort-Elberta Schools as we hand the reins over to them this fall.”

The Lake Ann program will fall under Benzie Central control and the Frankfort Elementary program under Frankfort-Elberta schools. The hospital also will continue to host 0-3 year olds at its child development center on the hospital’s campus.

During the transition, Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital plans to continue summer programming for preschoolers on its campus.

Benzie Central Schools Superintendent Matt Olson said his district will collaborate with the hospital and Frankfort-Elberta Schools to ensure no disruption in the programming. “Preschool education provides youngsters the foundation they need for success in school and life,” he said. “We’re excited to carry on this important program for the region and grateful for the hospital’s efforts on behalf of area kids.”

Frankfort-Elberta Area Schools Superintendent Jeff Tousley agreed. “These programs are a benefit to our children and in our region’s best interest,” he said. “The hospital provides us with a good foundation to build on.”

Marinoff said the transition represents the right timing for all involved. “I am confident that the schools operating these programs will afford students and teachers the opportunities, depth, and the support they need to be successful,”  he said.
