Munson Healthcare Neurocritical Care is pleased to welcome Ramiro Castro-Apolo, MD to the team.   

Dr. Ramiro Castro-Apolo is a dedicated and passionate neurologist specializing in neurocritical care. Born in Ecuador, Dr. Castro-Apolo moved to the United States in 2015 and has since lived in various states, including New York, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Missouri. His diverse background and experiences have enriched his practice, allowing him to bring a unique perspective to his patients and colleagues. 

Dr. Castro-Apolo's favorite part of practicing medicine is making a significant difference in his patients' quality of life. He thrives on helping them feel better and enjoys the intellectual challenge of solving complex medical cases. His dedication to his patients' well-being is evident in his commitment to providing the highest quality of care.   

Choosing neurology was a natural fit for Dr. Castro-Apolo, as he finds this field to be one of the most noble and intriguing areas of medicine. During his residency, he was drawn to the complexities and challenges of neurocritical care. His special interest lies in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, a condition that fascinates him due to its intricacies and the rapid changes it can bring about.   

"I practice medicine to help others. I am committed to advancing the field of neurocritical care and always prioritize my patients' best interests. My goal is to support both my patients and my colleagues in this evolving field," Dr. Castro-Apolo said.   

Dr. Castro-Apolo went to medical school at Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja School of Medicine in Ecuador and went on to complete his internship and residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Pennsylvania and his neurocritical care fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.   

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Castro-Apolo enjoys spending time with his beautiful family, which includes his wife, two children, and cat. He is an outdoor enthusiast who loves hiking, sports, and various outdoor activities. 

Dr. Castro-Apolo will work from the Munson Neurosurgery office, located at 1221 Sixth Street, Suite 300 in Traverse City.
