Robotic Technology: Improving the Surgical Experience at OMH, presented by Dr. James Shurlow
05.04.2017

Gaylord, Mich. — Dr. James Shurlow, General Surgeon at Otsego Memorial Hospital (OMH), will be presenting on the da Vinci® Surgical System, a newly-arrived technology that will significantly enhance the surgical experience. This state-of-the-art equipment utilizes a 3D high-definition vision system and tiny instruments that bend and rotate in sync with a surgeon’s movements, which offers surgeons greater precision, enhanced vision, and more control during surgery.

Dr. Shurlow will also explain the advantages of using robotic-assisted minimally invasive equipment, such as the da Vinci Surgical System, to reduce pain and incision size, and shorten hospitalization with many general surgery procedures. This presentation is ideal for patients who have experienced gallbladder, hernia, stomach, or other general surgery related symptoms, although the new robotic equipment will also be utilized in OB/GYN and Urology surgeries.

OMH is only the second hospital in northern lower Michigan to offer the da Vinci Surgical System to patients. A video demonstration of the equipment will be provided at Dr. Shurlow’s event.

The event will take place on Wednesday, May 10th from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm in the Professional Medical Building Conference Room at OMH. Admission is free and light refreshments will be provided.
