Streamlining Care: MMC Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic (POAC)

Streamlining Care: MMC Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic (POAC)
08.08.2024

Earlier this year, Munson Medical Center’s Advanced Registration and Testing Center (ARTC) merged with the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic to become the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic (POAC). This decision was made to streamline operations, improve patient experience, optimize outcomes, and expand services while preparing our patients for a successful procedure.

Here is the latest news from MMC’s POAC…

Providers

Jami Lahey, PA, has joined Erica Oakley, DO, and Keith Anderson, NP. We wish Dr. Wilfred Saldanha all the best in his retirement! We are working to improve efficiency and increase capacity so your patients should be able to get in quicker to the POAC beginning in September.

Process Improvements

To better streamline care, we are also working on process improvements to reduce date of service (DOS) cancellations associated with medication issues and are now sharing medication instructions with the patient’s primary care provider.

Orders/Boarding Slip Tips & Tricks

  • Our source of truth is the order/boarding slip. If you want specific testing done prior to surgery, it MUST be on the order/boarding slip. Otherwise, we will only order testing required per POAC and anesthesia testing guidelines.
  • Please send the order/boarding slip to ARTC even if not complete.
    • It’s ok to write pending or in progress
    • The sooner we can receive documents the better so we can start the document retrieval process. Don’t feel like you need to wait until you have ALL the documents before sending us the order/boarding slip.
  • Send a revised boarding slip if the surgery data has changed.
  • Identify which provider will be doing the pre-op clearance. Please note name, not just “PCP.”
  • A fillable electronic slip (Form 2097) is available online on Munson’s For Providers Forms webpage.
  • These tips and more can be found by referring to MMC POAC – What We Need from You!

Scheduling Tool Kit

We also have a Surgical Scheduling Toolkit available on our For Providers website which includes:

The Scheduling Tool Kit is a resource for surgical offices as well as primary care offices who conduct pre-op assessment for their patients.
