Surgical Services Expansion Project Begins at Hospital
09.06.2019

Construction on a Surgical Services expansion project will impact traffic flow around the northern side of the Munson Medical Center campus through the next few months.

Vice President of Facilities Steve Tongue said Sixth Street between Madison Street and Beaumont Place will be permanently closed Monday, Sept. 9, and the newly relocated street between Madison and Beaumont in front of the Cowell Family Cancer Center will allow for traffic between the east and west side of the campus as well as patient drop-off at the cancer center.

“We want to emphasize that we will have continued free valet parking for our Cowell Family Cancer Center patients,” he said. “We also are asking all truck traffic to approach the hospital campus via Medical Campus Drive.”

Beginning the week of Sept. 9, construction on the hospital’s Surgical Services expansion also will affect parking at the lot adjacent to the cancer center. Construction of the hospital’s parking structure in 2017 prepared the hospital to meet the parking needs for patients and visitors.

With the Sixth Street closure and construction launch, patient drop-offs to the hospital main lobby will shift to a temporary entrance just beyond the Sixth Street and Beaumont Place intersection.

Tongue said the Surgical Services project will add four new operating rooms and upgrade two existing ORs, as well and renovate and expand the hospital’s Central Processing Department. The project will last about two years.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these projects,” Tongue said. “We appreciate the patience of our community as we upgrade and create the opportunity for faster access to care for those with surgical needs in the region.”
