Staffing challenges affecting MHC services
In response to a combination of high volume of hospitalized patients with acute medical illnesses across our system and staffing challenges, we are temporarily scaling back sleep services at the Munson Sleep Disorders Centers in Cadillac, Manistee, and Traverse City and Wound Care in Manistee for at least the next six weeks. Sleep services in Charlevoix and Kalkaska are not affected at this time. Temporarily reducing services at these clinics allows us to redeploy our clinical staff to support critical services, including the monoclonal (mAb) clinics and urgent care/walk-in clinics, as well as redeploying the support staff to assist in other areas of need.
The MHC Sleep Disorders Centers of Cadillac, Manistee, and Traverse City will contact referring providers if any of your patients have been affected. All locations will continue to accept referrals but will be triaging referrals to ensure access is maintained for the most acute patient needs. For urgent sleep consultations, diagnostics or treatment, please call 800-358-9641 (Grand Traverse Region) or 231-876-7494 (South Region).
“It is always a difficult decision to reduce our services,” said Laura Glenn, President of Ambulatory Services and Value-Based Care for Munson Healthcare. “We know this change in service causes a disruption for both patients and providers, and ask for your patience as we work through these staffing challenges.”
Staffing shortages have increased as a result of the pandemic. The Munson Healthcare Human Resources team is working hard to recruit both temporary immediate resources, as well as full-time resources. We continue to monitor staffing and have critical conversations regarding suspending services, shifting scarce resources and, as a region and state, working closely to address our current crisis.
