In April, several school children in Detroit, Michigan were diagnosed with confirmed invasive Haemophilus Influenzae, a bacterial infection that causes flu-like symptoms such as high fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and lethargy.
Although vaccines can prevent H. Influenzae, Michigan’s overall childhood vaccination rates have declined during recent years. Please encourage parents to keep up to date on vaccinating their children against preventable illnesses.
The I Vaccinate initiative (supported by MHA) educates Michigan parents about the safety and effectiveness of childhood immunizations.
To help reach the goal of providing appropriate and necessary immunizations to every child in Michigan, the I Vaccinate Provider Toolkit helps providers:
- prepare for conversations
- navigate difficult questions from hesitant parents
- improve their ability to ensure their young patients are vaccinated on schedule or help them catch up on missed immunizations
