Support Cancer Services at Munson Healthcare
Munson Healthcare has been a regional leader in cancer services for decades. Major milestones include the introduction of radiation oncology with the Biederman Cancer Treatment Center in 1987, the Smith Family Breast Health Center in 2009, and the Cowell Family Cancer Center in 2016. Our facilities offer dozens of medical specialties, consistently upgraded technologies, and relationships with major cancer centers.
Cancer Program Needs
No matter where people live in northern Michigan, they have access to Munson Healthcare’s system of coordinated cancer care.
The Cowell Family Cancer Center is the hub of a regional cancer network that includes chemotherapy and infusion services at six sites: Cadillac, Charlevoix, Gaylord, Grayling, Manistee, and Traverse City.
Support for Munson Healthcare’s regional cancer program will help offer close to home services to enhance patient comfort and care throughout the cancer journey. Gifts to the Cancer Program Needs fund make a tremendous difference at a time of great uncertainty in a patient’s life. Estimated annual need: $200,000.
Cancer Patient Needs Fund
Cancer often arrives without warning and can be devastating and disruptive to both patients and their families.
Treatments often make a person too ill or too tired to work their regular hours. Even if a person has insurance to cover the treatments, the patient who cannot work does not have the money to pay routine monthly expenses. The Cancer Patient Needs Fund allows medical social workers and case management staff to assist cancer patients and their families during a cancer-related crisis. The fund provides financial assistance for such things as prosthetics, transportation, groceries, childcare, and utilities during treatment.
The average need is about $600 per person with an annual funding need of $20,000 total. We depend on community and volunteer support through events, programs, and private donations.
The Cancer Patient Needs Fund is not intended to provide funding for specific treatments.
