"New CME Series: Blurred Lines and Bioethics"

Conference Discussion topics will include:
Ethical complexities are common in healthcare, and it is not always clear what to do. MHC's Bioethics Resource Committee is hosting a 6-month education series to support healthcare professionals in navigating the blurred lines in a range of clinical scenarios. If you miss a class, classes will repeat starting in January 2025.

"Addressing Human Trafficking in Healthcare Settings"

Human trafficking is a public health concern that affects individuals, families, and entire communities across generations, according to the Administration for Children and Families, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  Because health care providers are in a unique position to identify victims and provide them with physical and psychological care—while in captivity and after release—policymakers are looking at how the health care system not only can serve victims but help solve the trafficking problem.

Program Objectives:

  1. Identify the types and venues of human trafficking in the United States
  2. Describe potential warning signs that a victim of human trafficking might exhibit
  3. Describe screening questions and tools that might be useful to identify victims of human trafficking within the healthcare setting
  4. Recognize the legal options available for a victim of human trafficking
  5. Describe the need for comprehensive models of care for victims of human trafficking

"Tuberculosis Testing Workshop"

The TB Testing Workshop (A.K.A., TST Workshop) is a four-hour workshop for healthcare workers covering all aspects of TB including history, epidemiology, transmission, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. In addition, the participant will learn how to properly administer and interpret a TB skin test (TST). Participants who successfully complete the workshop will receive TST Certification. Candidates for the TB Testing Workshop are healthcare workers who have experience with injections, universal precautions, sterile technique, and who are responsible for assessing risk of TB.

Program Objectives:

  1. Identify methods of TB transmission
  2. Identify methods of TB pathogenesis
  3. Explain the difference between TB infection and TB disease
  4. Identify methods used in the evaluation and identification of TB infection and TB disease
  5. Identify the high-risk target groups for TB skin testing
  6. Explain the appropriate next case management steps for a patient with positive TB skin test
  7. Demonstrate how to place, read and interpret the correct administration of the Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test
