Rick Avery, MD

Dr. Avery of Lake Orion, Mich., earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in biosystems engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. He received his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean, with clinical training at Providence Hospital of Southfield, Mich. His professional interests include preventive medicine and sports medicine. In his free time, Dr. Avery’s hobbies include camping, cooking, biking, fishing, and tinkering. He is a huge fan of dogs and cherries and is excited to be serving the Traverse City area.

Rebecca Byrnes, DO

Dr. Byrnes was born in Texas, but moved to Michigan at a young age. She attended Wayne State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry, with an emphasis in biochemistry, and minor in biology. She earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is excited about learning how to practice rural medicine in northern Michigan. She moved to Traverse City with her husband, Kyle, and in addition to spending time with him enjoys running, knitting, motorcycle riding, and other outdoor activities.

Eden Elfrink, DO

Dr. Elfrink was born and raised in a small town in central Missouri. He attended Truman State University in Kirksville for his undergraduate degree in exercise science and played on the Ultimate Frisbee team. He earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Elfrink enjoys healthy cooking, being outdoors, swimming, travelling, reading, and gaming. Areas of professional interest include ultrasound, international medicine, and sports medicine. He is very excited to be in Traverse City and is looking forward to all the snow.

Luke Friedli, DO

Dr. Friedli was raised in Traverse City and is excited to return to his hometown for residency. He earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in microbiology. After college he worked as an EMT in Elk Rapids. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he served as class president. His professional interests include obesity medicine, nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle changes, as well as mental health and preventive care. He enjoys running, hiking, cooking, traveling, playing guitar, and spending time with his family and his dog, Blade.

Rachael Hume, DO, MPH

Dr. Hume was born and raised in Farmington Hills, Mich. She earned her undergraduate degree in human biology from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in public health before graduating from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her hobbies include running, golfing, snowboarding, reading, and spending time with friends and family. She is also an avid hiker and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro prior to beginning residency. Dr. Hume is excited to live in northern Michigan and call Traverse City home.

Rebeka Srbu, DO

Dr. Srbu was born and raised in the Metro Detroit suburb of Clinton Township. She earned her undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University in biomedical science. She received her medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University — DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tenn. Dr. Srbu is thrilled to be back in Michigan for her residency and in her spare time enjoys hiking, being out on the lake, and cooking.
