Our Specialties
Medical Oncology
All of our medical oncologists are board certified. They provide consultations, treatment plans, and follow-up for most cancers. They will also provide second opinions for those who wish to receive another viewpoint. If there is a clinical trial available, our providers will discuss these opportunities with patients who may be eligible. In addition to seeing patients at the Cowell Family Cancer Center in Traverse City, many of our oncologists travel to locations across northern Michigan. Consultations and chemotherapy treatment are available in these areas:
- Kalkaska Memorial Health Center – Lindsey Ranstadler, NPC
- Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital – David Gordon, MD; Yelena Kier, DO; Zachary Hector-Word, MD; Barbara Ames, NP
- Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital – Andrew Riddle, DO; Jennifer Wedge, NP
- Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital – Joshua Ruch, MD; Jeff Fox, PA-C
- Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital – Kristian Koller, DO; Mara McKinley, NP
- Otsego Memorial Hospital, Gaylord – Jennifer Lawhorn, DO; Lori Schiller, NP
Hematology
Many of our oncologists are also board certified hematologists. These providers see both malignant and non-malignant hematologic conditions.
Gynecologic Oncology
Our board-certified gynecologic oncologist will provide surgical and oncologic care to those with cancer of the female reproductive organs.
Radiation Oncology
All of our radiation oncologists are board certified. They provide consultations, treatment plans, and follow-up for cancers that respond to radiation treatment.
Cancer Genetics
Our genetic counselor with special training in cancer genetics provides consultations for those with a personal or family history suggestive of increased susceptibility to cancer due to an inherited gene mutation. For patients who meet certain criteria, genetic testing may be ordered. As the referring provider you will receive information regarding this consultation and test results if testing was performed.
Multi-disciplinary Thoracic Oncology Clinic
Our weekly thoracic oncology clinic involves evaluation with a thoracic surgeon, medical oncologist, and radiation oncologist. The physician and supportive care team, including a social worker, financial navigators, palliative care specialist, and a dietitian convene to develop a plan. Afterward, your patient will meet with the thoracic oncology nurse practitioner who will fully explain the plan and answer any questions. While your patient is meeting with the support team, a nurse navigator and intake specialist will schedule appointments for a complete itinerary.
Lung Cancer Screening
Our thoracic oncology NP offers lung screening decision-making visits upon referral from a primary care provider (PCP). If referred through the Multi-disciplinary Thoracic Oncology Program (MTOP), the NP will order the low-dose CT scan with the referring primary care provider copied. Any non-lung nodule related findings need to be followed up by the PCP. If a lung nodule is found and biopsy is recommended, the NP will facilitate work-up unless indicated otherwise by the PCP. Additional screening scans and appointments will be scheduled by MTOP staff. Communication back to the referring PCP is a top priority for MTOP staff.
