Munson Medical Center PGY1 General Practice Residency Program Overview and Structure
Traverse City Michigan
Program Structure
The resident will have 12 months of experiences during their PGY1residency year with varying durations. Six months (orientation plus 5 Clinical rotations) will be required experiences, with the remaining time allotted for elective experiences. A minimum of nine months (including orientation) of direct patient care must be completed. Longitudinal rotations may also include concentrated, designated learning periods. All required experiences will occur prior to the fourth quarter of the program such that all goals/objectives that are required can be evaluated with time remaining to adjust schedule or repeat experiences if necessary.
The residency learning experiences will be divided into required, elective and longitudinal learning experiences. Required learning experiences will be predominately 4 weeks in duration. Longitudinal experiences will be 12 months in duration. Elective learning experiences may vary from 2 to 4 weeks in duration depending upon resident’s interest level. Required rotations may be extended to six or eight weeks depending on resident performance. Learning experience schedules will be determined based on availability and resident interests, as well as resident experience and progression within the program. Learning experience schedules will be adjusted and updated with the resident at the time if initial development plan and then quarterly.
