Visiting Pediatric Specialists
Visiting pediatric specialists hold clinics in Cadillac and Traverse City for consultations and follow-up care for children who need advanced services.
Bleeding Disorders
The Northern Regional Bleeding Disorders Center in Traverse City provides excellent, comprehensive medical care and support for children with bleeding disorders and their families, including those with hemophilia, Von Willebrand’s disease, and other inherited blood disorders.
Cancer
Children in northern Michigan with cancer are seen at the Cowell Family Cancer Center in Traverse City by pediatric hematology and oncology specialists from Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. Care is provided locally to reduce travel time for children and their families.
Cardiac Clinics
A pediatric cardiologist from Michigan Medicine holds monthly pediatric cardiology clinics at the Munson Healthcare Pediatric Specialty Clinic in Traverse City, usually on the fourth Thursday of the month. A pediatric cardiologist from Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids holds a monthly specialty clinic in the Cardiac Diagnostic Suite at Munson Medical Center, usually on the third Thursday of the month.
Child Care
Munson Healthcare offers child care services in Frankfort, Kalkaska, and Interlochen.
Child Life Program
The child life specialist at Munson Medical Center works one-on-one with children in the Emergency Department and in the hospital to ease their fears and prepare them for procedures.
Concussion
Munson Healthcare offers the Concussion Recognition and Neurological Intervention, United Management (CRANIUM) program to evaluate and treat student athletes and others for concussion, and help them safely return to their school and sports activities.
Developmental Assessment Clinic
Free follow-up screenings are provided for infants who have been patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or others who had serious medical problems at birth. The clinic provides a multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, social workers, neonatologist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, and developmental specialists.
Diabetes Education
A specialist from DeVos Children’s Hospital sees children with type 1 diabetes at the Pediatric Specialty Clinic in Traverse City. Services for children and families also are provided by Munson Healthcare Diabetes Education Program.
Feeding Program
Infants and children through age four receive one-on-one sessions with a specialized therapist to assess and resolve feeding problems.
Inpatient Pediatrics
Newborn and neonatal care is provided at all Munson Healthcare hospitals. Inpatient pediatric care is provided at Charlevoix Hospital, Grayling Hospital, Manistee Hospital, Mackinac Straits Health System, Munson Medical Center, and Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Munson Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides highly skilled medical care for premature and special needs infants from all around northern Michigan.
Occupational Therapy
Pediatric occupational therapy focuses on functional skills such as dressing and self-care that are important to each child and support their health, well-being, and development.
Orthopedics
Orthopedic specialists work directly with student athletes and others to prevent and treat sports injuries.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapists help children with musculoskeletal problems develop their gross motors skills such as rolling, crawling, sitting, walking, balance, and coordination.

Pediatricians provide specialty care for infants to young adults. Family care specialists provide lifelong care for all members of the family.
Rheumatology Clinic
A pediatric rheumatologist from Michigan Medicine holds a clinic for children with rheumatic diseases at the Pediatric Specialty Clinic in Traverse City.
Sleep Disorders
Munson Healthcare Sleep Disorders Centers can evaluate sleep problems in children and teens including insomnia, bedtime behavior problems, obstructive sleep apnea, sleep schedule problems, sleepwalking, and night terrors.

Sports Medicine
Munson Medical Center’s Sports Medicine program provides direct care and education to student athletes at local junior and senior high schools. Care includes on-site services with certified athletic trainers who emphasize injury prevention and provide CPR and First Aid certification for coaches.
Teen Health Corner
Teen Health Corners in Fife Lake and Kalkaska offer health care services for students at Kalkaska and Forest Area Schools, as well as home schooled and charter school students, ages 5 - 21 in Fife Lake and 10 - 21 in Kalkaska.
